Week 3

3D Printing and Scanning

For my final project, I wanted to make a miniature electric car. I decided to work on a CAD model for the car to 3D print this week: this could also be something that would only be made additively because the inside of the car, which the inside would be hollow, for storing electronics and things like seats.

Here is the outside in Fusion 360, with a hollow inside and basic seats.

Then, I exported the .stl file and loaded it on the 3D printer's computer to get a .gcode file by slicing it using PrusaSlice.

I then exported the .gcode via USB to the 3D printer, where I printed it. Here's what it looks like in action! week3/3d_printing.jpgweek3/3d_printing.jpg

And then, we get our final product!

3D Scanning

For my 3D scan, I took many pictures of my beautiful face, and uploaded it to KIRI ENGINE to generate an STL file of my face (I wanted to make moon cakes using molds of my face at some point.) The process works by taking around a hundred 2D selfies, and using photogrammetry to reconstruct a 3D model. After processing and scanning, I got this end product, a .stl file.

I then took this .stl file on PrusaSlice and created a .gcode for the following mold of myself:
