About Me

Hello! My name is Martín — welcome to my HTMAA website! Above, I am pictured prior to Colombia's first world cup game in the summer of 2026, so I was prepared in full attire. Unfortunately, we lost to Switzerland in penalties in the round of 16, wasting a clear chance in the 115th minute. I really thought we'd make the semis. I am still not over it.
I am a 2nd year graduate student in physical chemistry, and I am in Prof. Bob Griffin's research group. There, I develop new 17O Magic-Angle-Spinning (MAS) Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) techniques to study the structure and dynamics of molecular systems. For more details about NMR and my current research, please refer to my final project page! Prior to MIT, I did my Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Physics across the Charles at Boston University (BU). After graduating in 2024, I returned to BU as a Post-baccalaureate Academic Fellow (PAF), where I spent a year teaching chemistry labs and doing research. I taught Instrumental Analysis and Intensive General Chemistry laboratories, and I also worked as a Writing Fellow (WF) in BU Chemistry's Writing Program. My research focused on molecular electronics using Scanning Tunneling Microscope-Break Junction (STM-BJ) techniques. By probing electronic transport across single molecules, I would relate the conductance states to molecular structure and composition, clarifying fundamental structure-property relations of nanoscale systems.
Soccer and tennis are my favorite sports, and I am a Barcelona and Jannik Sinner fan. Oasis, Eagles, and the Grateful Dead are my favorite bands of all time.
I am very much looking forward to taking HTMAA! As I am sure you can tell from this website, I have no experience in making anything physical or digital, I'm just pretty good at chemistry. I am hoping to learn a lot in this class, and I am very sure that I will!
